Early Learning Centre Programs
at Nunawading
Sharing a campus with our school means children enjoy more learning opportunities at a younger age, including Bible, music, science, art, sport, LOTE (Mandarin). When it’s time to graduate to Prep, we find our students enjoy an easier transition as they’re already familiar with the teachers and environment of primary school.
Early Play-Based Learning
The Nunawading Christian College Early Learning Centre is designed to encourage play-based learning. Activities and programs encourage each child’s imagination, curiosity and explorative nature. We believe by fostering a love of learning in a positive environment at an early age, your child will be more inspired to continue their lifelong journey of learning.
Early Steps to Prep
Every child in the Nunawading Early Learning Centre participates in the Steps to School program, designed to make the transition between Early Learning and school easier.
The program includes:
- School-focused cognitive development – practising problem-solving, small maths equations and ICT learning.
- Classes at the Nunawading Christian College Library where children learn how the library works and have opportunities to interact with the bigger children.
- Buddy program with Year 5
- Attending weekly chapel programs.
- Involvement in school events. Our Early Learning students are regularly involved in whole-school events such as Anzac Day ceremonies, Combined Schools Day of Worship, Book Week and many more.
Early Community
Sharing a campus with our school means our Early Learning Explorers and Inventors have opportunities to be part of a bigger community. Regularly engaging in school events and with bigger children allows our Early Learning children to step confidently into school as part of a community where they are already comfortable.
Children at our centre regularly explore our local community through excursions and often have incursions from community groups to enrich their learning.
Early Adventure – Birralee Bundaleer
Our Popular Bush Kinder program reconnects our children with the natural world and gives them a better appreciation and respect for their environment. Children spend long and regular periods of time in unstructured or semi-structured play in natural environments all year round. No tools or art supplies are taken on Bush Kinder days. Children play with whatever nature has provided and leave only footprints behind. Learn more about the NCC Bush Kinder Program.
Early Music
Every Thursday, Early Learning students walk down to our Primary music room for music classes with Ms Monika Kapusi, our talented Primary music teacher. Students explore rhythm, beat, pitch, music & movement and have the opportunity to play instruments.
Early LOTE
Students in the Nunawading Christian College Early Learning Centre have the opportunity to learn Mandarin with our Primary Mandarin teacher. Classes are streamed to cater to advanced students in the program. This learning supports students through to Primary where students also learn Mandarin.
