At the start of Term 4, we held our World of Work week. This is a time for our Year 10 students to start thinking about life after school. Spend time discovering different career opportunities and how to navigate the world of job hunting. It is a great time to learn more about themselves and where they would like to move towards in their future.
Here are two student reflections on the week;
My experience during the World of Work week was filled with learning and applying. We were able to get an insight into different career paths such as neonatal nursing, frame-electrician, police work, physiotherapy, and the many positions required to operate a fully functioning aged care facility. We learnt how to form a resume and were allowed to hold mock interviews with our peers and present our elevator pitches as if we were applying for a real job. Throughout the week we were often put into groups or asked to work with people we didn't talk to or hang out with often, which definitely made me feel more comfortable working with people I am not familiar with. Although I am sure this is but a mere fraction of what real work experience is like, I am grateful to Mrs Mead for taking her time and giving us this opportunity and experience. -Malachi
My Year 10 World of Work week program experience was one full of learning and applying. We learned about a wide range of careers such as policing, electrician work, and nursing. We visited an Aged Care facility, learning about the many unique jobs required to run it. Furthermore, we also learned practical skills to apply for a job, techniques to use during interviews, and how to create our elevator pitches and resumes. We practised working and socialising with unfamiliar people, interviewing each other, and presenting our pitches.
My favourite part of the program was visiting the Aged Care because it was an eye opener as to the unlimited pathways in any workplace, whilst also learning about soft and technical skills. - Timothy
