Recently, our Year 8 students participated in a new initiative designed to engage them in a range of cross-curricular activities. In this first of three “Highlight Day” events for the year, students had the opportunity to play a variety of bonding and communication style games. The day kicked off with a multi-lingual activity where a number of students declared the day’s motto, “Let us come together” in their first language. From there, a fun-filled two hours of get-to-know-you card games, face-to-face interviewing and straw tower-building games ensued. Students laughed, opened up and spent quality face-to-face time with students outside of their own immediate friendship groups.
Students also participated in a large scale collaborative art project. Each student worked on an individual ceramic tile, carving and glazing out part of the overall mural. At the end of the day, the tiles were assembled a finished picture emerged made up of each student’s tile.
Thank you to Mrs Stekla, Mrs Rowett and Mrs Allen who treated the students to a delicious lunch of pasta, garlic bread and salad.
